The UtilityCloud Conference 2024: Innovation, Networking, and the Future of Energy

The annual UtilityCloud conference was a great success, bringing together customers, partners, and industry experts for a day full of product launches, professional updates, and forward-looking discussions. This year’s theme largely revolved around artificial intelligence (AI) and its role in the energy sector, in addition to new business opportunities in solar power and electricity sales. This year we had a new record with over 100 participants.

For the second year in a row, Erik Solbakken guided the conference with his characteristic warmth and humor. In addition to keeping the program running smoothly, he proudly shared his personal experience with solar energy production on his own rooftop, reporting an impressive income of NOK 15 last month. While this amount may not revolutionize the energy market, it was a nice reminder of the small but important steps we can all take toward a more sustainable future.

Key Highlights: From Energy Markets to the AI Revolution

Celine Munkeby from Thema Consulting Group took the audience on a deep dive into “The Development of the Norwegian Electricity Sales Market.” She highlighted how the market has stabilized after the electricity price crisis and predicted “brighter times” for both suppliers and consumers—a welcome message, especially after the last few years of unpredictable energy prices.

Bente Sollid, UtilityCloud’s new chairwoman, followed up with a thought-provoking presentation on how AI will transform the energy sector. She described how artificial intelligence can be used for everything from efficient energy grid management to improving customer experiences. It became clear that AI is not just a buzzword, but a tool with the potential to create real value.

The UtilityCloud product managers impressed with their presentations on the latest updates from their respective fields. The billing department, in particular, stood out with the launch of UC Ledger, which was met with a standing ovation from the attending customers. It’s rare to see such enthusiasm over billing systems, but this time it was clear that UC Ledger represented an innovation that truly addressed market needs.

Panel Discussion: Solar Power, Regulations, and the Future of the Energy Market

One of the day’s most exciting segments was the panel discussion featuring Svein Olav Munkey (CEO, NTE), Tommie Rudi (CEO, Skandia Greenpower), and Ole Angellsen (Director, Bodø Energi). They discussed how solar power has evolved from a private sector trend to become a national initiative with major opportunities in the commercial sector. The panel also tackled current political issues such as the government’s climate efforts in the national budget, as well as challenges related to margins and regulations in the electricity market. The discussion was engaging and offered participants valuable insights into how the industry can adapt to an ever-changing energy landscape.

The day concluded with a pleasant dinner, where participants had the opportunity to continue networking in a more informal setting. Good conversations and musical performances created a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, providing a fitting end to an eventful conference day.The UtilityCloud Conference 2024 was a meeting point for professional updates, innovation, and networking—with a clear focus on the future of energy and technology. We already look forward to next year’s event!
